God News for lakhs of Post Office Customers! India Post has removed the nominee update charge for all the accout types under the National Savings Scheme. If you have a account in Post Office and want to add a new nominee or want to update existing nominee, the process will be easy now.
Department of Posts now allows adding or updating Nominee to your SB, RB , TD, KVP, NSC, Sukanya Account for free of cost.
What is the Nominee related update for your Post Office accounts?
India Post has announced that adding a nominee or updating existing nominee(s) to your small savings schemes account is now completely free of charge. You can update nominee in your post office Savings Bank (SB), Recurring Deposit (RD), Time Deposit (TD), Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP), National Savings Certificate (NSC), and Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts for free of cost from now on.

Previously, there was a nominee updation charge of Rs.50+GST was applicable for any changes in account nominee per account. But department has removed this charges.
What is the SB order?
Department of Posts vide memo no: 113-03/2024 dated 03.04.2025 vide SB order No: 05/2025 has posted an SB order suject line “Circulation of amendment in Government Savings Promotion General Rules, 2018.“
The SB order says “The undersigned is directed to forward a copy of the Gazette notification dated 02.04.2025 issued by the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance in connection with the amendments in rules related to Government Savings Promotion General Rules, 2018.”
G.S.R. 214 (E) – Government Savings Promotion General (Amendment) Rules, 2025.
“ln the Government Savings Promotion General Rules,2018, in the Schedule ll, under Fee to be charged for services, the words and figures “(b) Cancellation or change of nomination – Rs.50″ shall be deleted”.
How to Update Nominee is Post Office SB, RB , TD, KVP, NSC, Sukanya Account?
To update nominee for any savings account under the National Small Savings Scheme you need to submit duly filled FORM -10 for Application for cancellation and variation of nomination in an account under National Savings Scheme. Customer are also required to enclose passbook/deposit receipt/statement of account with the form. This all required docuemnts are needed to be submitted to the post office where you have opened your account.
