Aadhaar Card Rules: Update your Aadhaar card in 10 years else you will not get subsidy, ration and pension. This ensures that every eligible citizen can avail every government facility subsidies without problem.

If your Aadhaar card is more than 10 years old, then you need update it as soon as possible. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has advised all Aadhaar holders to update and re-verify their aadhaar details to continue receiving government facility subsidies without problem.

Why Aadhaar card update is important?

Aadhaar card is important for all government and non-government services in India. Aadhaar card is important bank account opening, LPG subsidies and ration card-based benefits. Also, if you want to invest in stocks, e-sign document etc then mobile linked/updated aadhaar is a must required.

In the last 10 years, your biometric or demographic data (such as name, address, date of birth, photo etc.) may have changed. So updating Aadhaar card is important for Indians. If you’re not getting Aadhaar based eKYC OTP, failing biometric authentication or not getting government subsidy then you should update your aadhaar card details immediately.

UIDAI Guidelines on Aadhaar Card re-verification

UIDAI recommends to update all aadhaar card which are older than 10 years. This update and re-verification is needed to avoid any loss for citizens. This is a voluntary process, but it is very important to avail the government services.

What information needs to be updated and re-verified in Aadhaar update?

Wrong aadhaar details can reject your ekyc process for multiple government services. You should update biometric information includes fingerprint, iris scanning, photo, while demographic information includes name, date of birth, address, mobile number, email ID (if any). Because most services require OTP verification from Aadhaar.

What will happen if I dont update?

Outdated Aadhaar details could stop of government services you get like food itmes distribution through ration cards, LPG subsidies, or Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) to bank accounts. If you have not updated your Aadhaar and any information is incorrect or biometric verification is not matching you may not get the service from the government.
